Cinema
Like the first colored television returning to black and white,
A slight fuzz rattles through me.
Kicking, rearranging the cables,
sinking into the maroon leather couch next to my loud laughing aunt Kim.
I know she just wants to be heard for once-
but I watch the film,
He says:
“You have my whole heart”,
as she launches it fully into the sky
Plants kisses on her neck
Sprouting roses attached to post-it notes
“10 reasons I love you.”
My eyes roped out of their sockets,
can true love truly be true?
But- I can check his qualities off a checklist;
sweet, gentleman, smart:
“How was your day beautiful?”
4 stars for your wonderful performance sir.
His eyes turn toward me, his hand slowly reaching out.
I grasp but feel no embrace.
I pucker but feel no soft lips.
I sink bank into my fate.
Wise aging years,
have proved to me-
He’s in color-
I’m trapped within ordinary static.
