Cinema
Like the first colored television returning to black and white,
A slight fuzz rattles through me.
Kicking, rearranging the cables,
sinking into the maroon leather couch next to my loud laughing aunt Kim.
I know she just wants to be heard for once-
but I watch the film,
He says:
“You have my whole heart”,
as she launches it fully into the sky
Plants kisses on her neck
Sprouting roses attached to post-it notes
“10 reasons I love you.”
My eyes roped out of their sockets,
can true love truly be true?
But- I can check his qualities off a checklist;
sweet, gentleman, smart:
“How was your day beautiful?”
4 stars for your wonderful performance sir.
His eyes turn toward me, his hand slowly reaching out.
I grasp but feel no embrace.
I pucker but feel no soft lips.
I sink bank into my fate.
Wise aging years,
have proved to me-
He’s in color-
I’m trapped within ordinary static.
Modern Day Wedding Bells
Messages flood through the flashing device
The descriptive facade of hope and grow old together love
Blinking at us, screaming to forget all sound advice
Could this really be a plan from heaven above?
But this application can bring so much joy
Scrolling through bachelors top ranked profiles
Haven’t you heard of the success of that one lucky girl and boy?
I watch the merry women journey down the aisles.
Have you really never done it? Why?
I take a shot of the sweetest liquor and smile
He wraps his tattooed arms around me -“Waiting for the right guy?”
I’ll just put you as another number in my file
The evergoing neon ferris wheel spinning,
The end starts at the beginning.
