The Social Media Dilemma
My feelings about social media are complicated. Part of me loves it. It allows me to connect with people who share similar interests with me, and on various social media platforms, including Prose, I've met incredibly kind and wonderful people. I never would've had a chance to meet them without the presence of social media. I'm very grateful it's linked me to all these people and helped me make new friends. Social media can, and has been, used for positive change as well. Whether it's passing a petition through the internet, raising awareness on different topics, or saving a person's life. Social media has helped with all these things.
The downside of this, is that social media can be used for the exact opposite. It can be a platform for hate to fester, for anonymous users to prey on one another, for unnecessary drama to spread. It's true that social media can be used for many negative things, too, and while I believe there is more of a positive presence overall, there will always be unhappy people who feel the need to start trouble. So I guess my answer to this prompt is that, at times I love social media, and other times, I wish it wasn't a thing. I hope that over the years, it will become more of a force for good.
