As you go through your day, listen to conversations and sounds around you – at the supermarket, your favorite café, the mall, walking down the street, at home… Then pick a sound or snippet of conversation and write for 15 minutes and see where it takes you. Just write! Poetry, prose – whatever flows!

The id
Incessant whining
of a nagging id
of the child
who has learned that
the pleading, needling,
ear-piercing sound
of his plaintive whine
will ever lead
to the fulfillment
of his id-controlled
heart’s desire
by the loving
albeit misguided parent
desiring momentary peace
but unwittingly receiving
a lifetime of whine-enabled
id-fulfillment.
