Challenge
Not love
As Valentine's day approaches, I have a challenge for you: write a poem that suggests love, but does not quite reach it. do not write about the idea of love; make the reader experience it and snatch it away. Leave me feeling not heartbroken, not smiling, but somewhere in between. Must have the line "not love" in there somewhere. And as always, tag me in the comments @Dream.
On the road
It is not love that binds here
It is charcoal and dust,
Ashes and a tongue,
angry and scar-leaving.
Her heart on the wooden table lies
Open to slings and arrows outrageous;
Another’s love entangles her
-and no less wicked ’tis -
anger is not what marks her.
Yet, better, tender hands leave their mark,
and laughing kisses sear her flesh.
Leaving marks whose recalling makes her smile.
