On the Porch
Dad bought two chairs in ’98.
Painted ’em Wedgwood blue.
Put ’em near the window
on the front porch.
He & Mom sat there often,
side-by-side,
sippin’ sweet tea,
watchin’ flowers grow.
Pillows (Granny-apple green)
helped make sittin’ easier.
Nearby was a table
for Mom & Dad’s brew.
Both blue chairs are empty now.
No sweet tea bein’ made.
Mom died ’bout a year ago.
Dad just stays inside.
Azaleas in a make-shift vase
faithfully stand guard—
protecting Mom’s bottled ashes,
so Dad can feel she’s safe.
