Depression As Defined By A Frequent Guest
Come with me!
Dive into the darkest well.
Hold your breath until your lungs are lead weights.
Drown beside me, sinking to hell’s gilded portal
to beg sentinel hounds our entry.
Inside we discover no gnashing teeth,
no flames of Inferno at our feet
or demons dancing round us in frenzied circles.
In horror’s stead is a violent wind whipping us empty,
forcing failure down our throats,
till we choke on self-loathing,
life-loathing so authentic it is welcome remedy to our diurnal falsehoods.
But this is no place for you who will soon surface,
leaving me alone, submerged, till the end.
