Ruby-Red
Outside, the trees dangle
red-ripe berries. They create
poison in your mouth,
smudged like bloody lipstick
across chapped, winter-cold lips.
The room is splashed in yellow
and I
always forget:
Damn, there’s no Wi-Fi in this fucking stall.
You laugh,
lean forward, your gentle hands
dance across skin that has never seen the sun.
I sigh, and
all thoughts of the outside world
disappear. Only you and I remain.
Your lips, ruby-tinted,
descend.
I lean back, my gaze
catches on the branches
outside the window.
Maybe I should draw the blinds.
You whisper no into the crook of my neck,
because it’s better this way.
Let’s stop
pretending
