Escape
Rows of books line my shelves, each one encapsulating a fictional world that a skilled author has created for others to enjoy. I thank these creative individuals endlessly, as they have, and will continue to, save me from the world surrounding me as times get harder and I feel my dreamscape slowly slipping away. As early as I can remember, I relied on these worlds of wonder more so than the mediocre friends I had throughout my elementary and junior high career. Tucked away in a corner or even sitting at a desk while children roughhoused around me, their playful shouts became more and more distant as my mind traveled through pages to the fantasy settings painted by the storyteller’s strings of words. I grew up in these worlds, fighting dragons and befriending characters who I imagined standing by my side when I needed a brave hand. The characters inspired me to try new things, whether that be climbing one step higher on the playground or venturing further into the mysterious forests surrounding my home. I have these exceptional writers and their lovable creations to thank for the girl I am today, all because their ideas were presented to me through novels and films. Writing has always been a part of my life as well, and I finally was able to understand why this is the path I will continue to follow. I don’t see myself pursuing anything rather than creating worlds just like the authors in my youth did, providing fantasy worlds for generations to come. My goal is to not only write down the things I have swirling around my vast imagination, but to become one of the idolised creators that saved a little kid like me.
