Persephone

Lightly she dances across a field of purple heather,

Fingertips tenderly brushing the whispering grasses.

Soft breezes carry her carefree laugh to his lonely ears,

Sparking a sudden desire within his stone-cold heart.

Out of the sinister shadows of the earth he ascends,

Smoldering steps etching his path in the sunlit meadows.

Stretching forth one hand the god of death beckons life to him,

His harsh murmur scorches the silence – “Persephone.”

Clear amber eyes become transfixed upon his dusky form,

Clash between alarm and wonder reflected in her gaze -

The daughter of Life steps forward to meet the king of death.
