Book Wonder
Summary: Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie Pullman becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to discover their compassion and acceptance, Auggie's extraordinary journey will unite them and prove you can't blend in when you were born to stand out.
Based on what I read, I wrote a poem from Auggie's perspective:
⬇
I am brave and observant
I wonder why I look this way
I hear people talking about my face
I am brave and observant.
I pretend I don't see them staring at me
I feel myself crying in the inside
I touch my squished face and feel me
I worry if I will ever have a normal face that nobody notices
I cry because I don't have a normal face
I am brave and observant.
I understand why my family protects me
I speak of why I look so ugly
I dream to have people not stare at me
I try to ignore people who stare at me
I hope I have a normal face
I am brave and observant!
