OSTears
I’m a major crybaby, but oddly enough, it’s hard for music with lyrics to evoke my tears.
However, if you tie a beutiful piece of music with beutiful images, I’ll be bawling in seconds, which is why I’ve compiled a list of OSTs (and 2 lyrical songs) that have at some point or another, made me cry. And I’ve kindly assigned a scale of heartache to each piece, so you know what you’re getting into if you choose to google it.
“As Long as he’s Safe” by John Powell - The compilation of years of beautiful story coming together into one massive montage of stress, love, and pain, and then having the sudden realization that all great things have to come to an end.
Scale of destruction: The kind of pain a child experiences while having their favourite blanky torn from their grasp.
Also, it was written by a composer who knows how to wrack up those critical hit points. Meanwhile, a sadistic movie-making crew decided to play the song right after (and/or while) you suffer from a heart attack.
Naruto Storm 4 End Credits by Chikayo Fukuda - Again, it’s the beautiful montage of years of story being shoved down the throat of a dedicated fan. Except, it’s more unexpected this time.
Scale of destruction: Picture a Mortal Kombat victim whose narrator said “FATALITY” eons ago, but the beater-upper didn’t get the memo and had been spamming their ultimate move since... eons ago.
“Musique Pour la Tristesse de Xion” by Yoko Shimomura
Scale of destruction: The kind of pain of enduring 30+ hours of cruel gameplay and losing your save file. (This didn’t actually happen to me for this specific game, but its an accurate representation of what my heart went through)
“Sadness and Sorrow” by Toshio Masuda
Scale of destruction: Death.
“Disciple of Shoyo” by ???
Scale of destruction: Like learning your entire life was a lie.
“Rainy Tone” (piano vers) by (K)NoW_NAME
Scale of destruction: Like watching someone shatter; someone you didn’t think could ever be sad.
“Little Soldier Boy (Leaves from the Vine)” by Jeremy Zuckerman - I couldn’t even listen to this one while searching for it. Three minutes of music and eight lines of lyrics that cast a sadness beyond tears.
Scale of destruction: Like reading a book from the perspective of a cemetary.
“Wind” by Akeboshi - the only song I know of that’s in 5/4 time
Scale of destruction: Like watching a little boy wander from place to place with no friends or family and you’re unable to hug this child or reassure him that things’ll be okay.

That’s all I can take, but instead of leaving you all depressed, here’s a little song from me to you, to flip that frown upside down:
