Helium

Clutching her hand desperately

attempting to keep her tethered to the Earth.

She was a helium balloon

liable to take off with the slightest updraft.

Constantly flitting, and dancing around the house

and abundance of energy and light.

A whirlwind of emotions, thoughts,

tears, laughter, and fears.

She constantly floated on the clouds

between the Earth and outer space

occasionally scraping her knees

as she came back down to reality.

Raw with emotion she bandaged herself up

and soldiered onward to the next updraft

unaware of the destruction left in her wake.

One day he feared

she would just sail off in a gust

and leave everyone behind in the debris of her life.
