Destruction

I only looked back once, and the destruction was horrifying. Houses, buildings all crumbled down, all broken into dust, debris. I gulped, but my mouth was dry and my throat was clenched tightly.

What did I start?

What did I do?

This, is all on me!

''Reese?'' a voice asked, and I turned. ''What's wrong?''

I raised my eyebrows, ''What do you mean, 'what's wrong'?''

''You seem... off.''

''Oh wow. Really?''

''Come on, don't be like that.''

''This!'' I wave my arms towards all the destruction, ''Is what's wrong!''

''But, we did it! We manage to rebel! We fought!''

''But-'' I started to breathe faster, ''This- this is all on me!'' My voice cracked as I said it. ''It's all because of me, that lives are lost, that these buildings - this city - is in ruins!'' I fell down to the ground, hands covering my face.

''Reese, don't you remember what they did to us, us all?''

''But-'' I started, but couldn't finish. I couldn't speak, breathe even. My body started shaking, shuddering as I tried to breathe while the world started to twist and turn, becoming faded.

''Reese! Stay with me - breathe, relax!'' A hand sat on my shoulder, shaking me slightly.

''What did I do? What did we do?'' I screamed once I managed to catch my voice again.

''We fought!''

''But... but,'' I started to moan and sob. ''Why?'' I kept repeating as I hiccuped.

It's all on me.
