Ocean
The sand under my feet
Contain the molecules
That once made up
A girl who was named
Alice. She loved to chase
Her family’s dog and had two
Older brothers who endlessly
Shamed her for it.
The oxygen I breathe in
Once collided with particles
That passed through
The lungs of an old man
On the brink of death
With his wife and two daughters
By his bedside.
And one day what was once
My bones and hair
Will make up a lovely flower
For passersby to adore
On their walk through
Central Park
With their strollers and
Leashed pups.
