Magical Promise
“Everything is not what it seems When you can get all you wanted in your wildest dreams....”
- Selena Gomez
Cerissa listened to the lyrics from the old Selena Gomez song playing over the diner’s radio, and chuckled to herself.
“I may have magical powers, but they can’t give me everything I want.” Cerissa thought to herself. “Magic alone won’t restore my lost memory.”
Cerissa was a mage with a decent handle on magic, but thanks to a powerful warlock, she had forgotten much about herself. She was seeking her mysterious adversary, and battling what were likely his machinations in her travels. In this moment though, she was enjoying a cup of coffee while waiting for the omelet she had ordered. She was dressed in a comfortable sweater and jeans, and blended in at her booth reading a newspaper. The other diner patrons had no idea that the newspaper was a masked disguise for Cerissa’s spellbook, which she was studying while waiting for her food.
A man wearing a vampire mask entered the diner and rushed to the restaurant cashier with a gun pulled.
“Empty out your register!” Vampire Mask demanded. “And get me some home fries too!”
Cerissa conveniently was studying a wind spell on her newspaper. This was one of the spells she had forgotten in her memory loss, and now seemed like a good time to learn it again. Cerissa pointed in the robber’s direction, and read the wind spell’s words in her head.
The gun flew out of Vampire Mask’s hands, and safely onto the table of a Police Officer that was also drinking coffee. Cerissa sent another secret burst of wind that knocked the troublemaker off his feet, leaving him face down on the floor.
The officer approached the cashier and cuffed the unconscious robber.
“I apologize for the trouble, we’ll take him off your hands.” The officer said kindly.
Cerissa smiled and returned to her coffee. Maybe her magic couldn’t give her everything in her wildest dreams, but she could still help people with it. She silently vowed to continue to make the world a safer place with her abilities while seeking her lost memories, and she also promised that she would continue to protect others even after knowing who she truly was once again.
