Dirk’s Fate

- This chapter arc is a follow up/sequel to "Cerissa's Vow" (https://theprose.com/post/415790/cerissa-s-vow)

"Cerissa, it's you!" Doug cried out with joy, as he saw the mage at his doorstep with a pirate and an armored fellow. "I see you have some friends with you too, and that's great! You told me before that you were keeping people at a distance - I'm so happy you have found others to journey with you!"

"Thanks Doug, it is so great to see you again!" Cerissa said happily, embracing him. "This is The Pirate and Rick, and besides being great allies, they have a method that will help Dirk with his mutation."

"You guys found a cure?" Doug asked hopefully.

"We're still working on a permanent cure, but we could utilize a place called The Reflection Dimension, which is used by Hugh's hero network." Rick explained. "We can send Dirk there, and he will be fully cured."

"However, there are risks involved." The Pirate added gently.

"Dirk could potentially choose to stay in The Reflection Dimension, or he could be trapped if he doesn't vow to change his ways." Cerissa said sympathetically. "If you are ok with it, we can send him right now. But we want you to know what could happen first."

"It's fine, I'm ok with the risks." Doug said nervously, but with resolve as well. "I wasn't able to guide him properly, so if The Reflection Dimension doesn't think he should be released, some of the responsibility falls on me too. Please do what you must."

Everyone entered the house and went to Dirk's room. Dirk was asleep in his bed, still in his human form thanks to Cerissa's deep sleep spell. Rick summoned his laser gun once again, and his shot made Dirk disappear. A moment later Dirk reappeared before the party, awake and smiling broadly.
