July 4, 1776
It was my turn
I picked up the pen
Never has a feather been so heavy
I dipped the pen in the ink
A single drop fell from the tip
Landing back in the well
I slowly moved my hand towards the document
Am I doing the right thing?
Is becoming a traitor to the crown
A fugitive until the day I die
A wanted man across two continents
Worth it?
Yes
It is worth it
By signing my name
I make the future better
I secure the blessings of liberty
For myself and my posterity
I set the tip to the paper
And slowly
Signed my name
John Hancock
