On This Day: September 28th … Strange Holidays
Ask A Stupid Question Day
National Drink A Beer Day
National Women Road Warrior Day
Personally, I’ve always believed there is no such thing as a stupid question but on the other hand, some of the answers are stupid.
National Women Road Warrior Day
Today, honors the efforts of working women who fight against the odds to remain successful and influential. Truly, being a working lady and managing kids is not easy, especially if you have to travel a lot for work. However, it’s not impossible either. All that is required is the desire to make a difference and the motivation to achieve success. A woman road warrior travels because it is part of her job and she still meets deadlines no matter what the situation. Are you a woman road warrior? If yes, you better start celebrating.
Over the years, women have contributed a great deal to the advancement of
businesses and workplaces in the world. For instance, in the 1850s, women were the ones who kickstarted the fields of home economics and social work. In the 1900s, things started to really change and numerous working women emerged at the forefront of the working world. For instance, women like Coco Chanel and Elizabeth Arden established their brands and became recognized as global influences. From 1940 to 1945, the percentage of working women rose by almost 10% since most of the men were off fighting in World War II. Though most of the businesses by women were home-based, they still managed to provide a good profit for them. An example of a woman who worked hard to make a mark is Mary Kay Ash, who went door to door selling books during World War II. In 1963, Mary Kay Ash formed her own business plan and later founded Beauty by Mary Kay.
In the late ’90s, more women joined the workforce or became entrepreneurs. This was the time when women like Madonna and Oprah Winfrey were establishing their business brands. They also became recognized across the globe. And yes, their line of work required a lot of travel. Furthermore, the number of women who are enrolled in MBA programs has also been increasing and, in 2016, 37% of full-time MBA students were female. Today, due to their education, a large number of women have taken up managerial roles that, at times, require a lot of traveling.
National Drink A Beer Day
Just as the Oktoberfest season comes to an end, the day reminds us to enjoy the world’s most popular adult beverage.
Beer lovers have more selection than ever before in the ale and lager market. An explosion in the craft beer industry keeps the competition and the flavors robust, churning out new flavors seasonally. Beer connoisseurs quench their thirst with flavors drastically different from their grandfather’s beers. Root Beer to raspberry, caramel, and hints of herbs all tickle the palate when it comes to artisanal beers.
However, you don’t have to drink a special brew to celebrate the day. Drink your favorite stand by or branch out – whichever you prefer. Around the country, and from around the world, a wide assortment of beers offers plenty of ways to celebrate. Whether you call your mug full of brew a barley pop or cerveza, the day is worth celebrating.
It’s interesting to note this holiday lands on the birth of Arthur Guinness, the founder of Guinness Brewery.
“Whoever drinks beer, he is quick to sleep; whoever sleeps long, does not sin;
whoever does not sin, enters Heaven! Thus, let us drink beer!”—Martin Luthor
Ask A Stupid Question Day
We’ve all done it, had that question we wanted to ask that just sounded astoundingly stupid. We’re embarrassed that it even occurred to us, and worse, that we didn’t know the answer when it seemed so simple. The truth is there is no such thing as a stupid question, except the one that you choose not to ask. We never learn anything if we’re afraid to ask the question to begin with, whether that’s by researching it or asking someone who might know. Ask a Stupid Question Day encourages you to overcome your fear of sounding uneducated, and opening yourself to learning by asking your stupidest questions.
You have probably heard the saying “there is no such thing as a stupid question.”
Ask A Stupid Question Day was created by a collection of teachers who wanted to make children feel encouraged to ask more questions in the classroom. If you can remember your school days, there were probably only a couple of people who felt comfortable asking any question, right? For many of us, we can remember feeling nervous and shy about the prospect of putting our hand in the air and asking something. We would worry that the question was stupid and that everyone would laugh at us. However, asking questions is such an important part of the learning process, and so it is important that we encourage children to feel comfortable asking any sort of query. It is also a vital part of the educational process from a teacher’s standpoint as well. Asking questions serves as effective feedback, helping them to get a better understanding of what their students need assistance with.
Ask A Stupid Question Day presents the opportunity for children who are shy to speak up and ask a question, no matter how scary this may seem or how stupid they fear the question may be. It is noy only about encouraging children to be more inquisitive, but it is about creating a friendly, positive, and encouraging classroom environment so that kids are not worried about being laughed at. When you take this into account, it is not difficult to see why a number of different countries around the world pay honor to Ask A Stupid Question Day.
Aside from getting the answer to something, there are a number of other benefits that you will make the most of if you start to ask more questions. After all, we learn about life by answering questions. This is something that has been scientifically proven! When children ask the question “why” and they start to observe and try out different things, they learn about the world. That is not the only benefit that is associated with asking many questions. The more questions you ask, the better answers you get! Questioning also makes you open. You form new patterns in the brain and you enrich your knowledge and outlook on life. Plus, asking the right questions creates a sense of happiness, and it makes you wiser in the process too. There is always something new to learn, right?
