Cooperative you
I sat up until the sun stretched across the horizon,
until the birds sang to me their sorrows-
I have learned to breathe,
learned to break without you,
it hurts more than I care
to admit, but I will to you;
you deserve the truth,
deserve more than I could bear to give you.
I lay here, selfish and cruel
my heart feeling more heavy
than it ever has before,
and yet with every gust of anticipation
I inhale, a remorsing relief-
I know it's for the better that you never saw me for the faults I embodied.
