As If
As if we were a rope, tethered at each end.
As if we were two boats, docked yet wandering.
As if we were one soul, that had been split in to two.
As if you'd ever love me the way that I loved you.
As if we tied a knot wherever that rope frayed.
A temporary strength that did not fix what underlaid.
As if we were the sea that wavered, ebbed, and flowed.
At first sight, rhythmical, yet beneath; so much unknown.
As if we were two halves, and so we never did feel full.
Perhaps you never loved me.
As if we'll never know.
