Bye Mitch
"You just go, go, and go from place to place without doing anything with use. It is like we are roommates. I hardly see you anymore!" Mary yelled at him as she paced around the living room. It was 11:00 pm, their three kids were in bed, and he had only just gotten back from work.
"What did you expect of me?" Mitch yelled back! We have nearly $100,000 in college debt alone, not including the house and car payments. We also have to pay for the kids' college in the future, and their current private school tuitions. I need to work to pay these things. At least I am not like you brother."
Dead silence.
"I'm sorry, I did not meant that, I took it too far" Mitch said. But it was already to late. Mary, had stopped pacing around and was stareing at him, her mouth gaping as she tried to take some deep breaths like the therapist said.
"That is it. I quit." I am taking the kids and I am leaving. We are going to my sister's place", she said as she started to gather some of her things. "We are leaving tonight"
"Honey, please no, stop" Mitch pleaed with her as he followed her up their bedtime. She got a suit case out and started packing. "You guys are the only reason I took this terrible job, what is the point if. If.." He stopped speaking, he did not know what to say.
"Cut it out." Mary said, packing serveral sets of clothes already for folded and ready to go. "I told you. I told you that you did need the job, that you could have kept the teaching job. You are the one that wanted the chance to make it in the big city. To work in the skyscrapers making big money. I never liked the city, or all the traffic, or all the people. You did not listen." She huffed as she finished packing her clothes, and went pounded on the kids' doors. "Wake up, Wake up," she yelled. "We are heading over to Auntie Mildred's. Cameron, Michael, and Lily, get up and pack!
Lily, always the early riser, was the first one out. "what is going on? Why?
The twins, Cameron and Michael came out only a moment later. Already fully dressed. "You didn't hear? We're leaving Dad," Cameron replied with a matter-of-fact tone of voice. "Probably the whole street knows."
Mitch steared at the twins who already were helping their mom gather a few things. They gathered up towels, pillows, and food. Lily, the youngest at age 11, watched eating some cookies that Cameron, or Michael, had handed to her.
"Kids." Mitch asked them. "Please, please tell your mom to change her mind. We can work this out." But they only rolled their eyes at him.
" We think that she is making the right decision. I have hardly seen you over the last year. It is over." Cameron candidly replied. "Maybe you are able to fix it with some work, or maybe not. " The four of them, his wife and the three kids, finished packing as he watched wordlessly. They left by 11:42 pm.
