Nanakuli
Take me to the shores
Where I ran as a child
I will sit with my feet buried
I'll count the honu as they surface for a peek Patiently, I'll wait my turn.
Into the warm blue water
Into the welcoming grasp
Deep ocean waters
Calm carefree day
When the waves lap lazily at the shoreline
Like a sweet soft kiss
Until at last the the waves grow impatient
They climb the shore searching
When the current grows hungry
When the waves solidify into walls
Reaching for the moon
When the rip tide spins its hypnotic death
I will rise then and approach
The white walls batter the beach
Booming like thunder
The waves will welcome me home
The warm blue seas where
I swam as a child
Current folds me into strong salty arms
Remembering how I escaped
Current won't let go this time
And neither will I
The tide embraces me as a lover
Sweeps me off my feet
Carries me away with furious power
The tide will roll in and out
I won't be found again
The ocean remembers me
I'm home
