The first time you attempt suicide
They swarm
And platitudes fall from their lips like rain
Next time you feel this way…
Call me
Anytime day or night
I'll answer I'll always answer
The second time you attempt suicide
They never come
You never told them
You just fail
And go about your day
You didn't die
Now there are bills to pay
And there are no marks to show
Never any marks to show
The sixth time you attempt suicide
You try
You dial
And later that day when you're on the floor
Unmarked
But so damaged
The failure of your latest attempt scattered around you
At that exact moment
There are five people
Each with a missed call and your name
Some have a message
Most don't
The ones who do
Wont know what's going on
No need to panic anyone
Wow you really suck at the whole death thing
At that exact moment
There are two people who are supposed to call you back
Who answered the phone
And cut you off before you could speak
I'm busy right now
I'll call you back later
They'll forget
But you'll never forget
And even when you meet new people
Make new friends
Even as they gather things about you like puzzle pieces
You still know they're lying
That's the only thing you can trust
That they're lying
And when the day comes
The day that you really should have called someone
There will be no missed calls
There will be no conversation rain checks
There will be you
Finally sticking the landing
And there will be them
Offering platitudes
At a black coffin
And an empty cage
