Numbness

I smile a bright smile,

in spite of the pain,

dance a lively dance,

in the pouring rain.

Run despite of tread,

Laugh instead of cry,

Eager in the face of dread,

in the snow storm I'll fly.

I plead guilty in front of you,

in defiance of innocence,

Keep my worries few,

and marvel at life's brilliance.

I'll mask the feelings so real,

numb so I don't have to feel.
