To get the ball rolling
Sentient carnivorous plants (SCPs) have needs, just as much as anyone else. its is hard to understand the tastes and intentions of an SCP, being so different from us, and yet, within this challenge we make assumptions that shall allow us something to work with:
A) SCPs are mobile, and roam between places for work, leisure, acquiring sustance, etc.
B) SCPs are attached to certain localities, which are either an enclosed shelter or an open one. for all intents and purposes these shall be considered as homes, though they may or may not serve in exactly the same capacity. furthermore, within said locality, there is a division into smaller areas, with some different features, and ostensibly to perform or conduct different parts of daily behavior. they shall be called rooms, though the separarion of rooms might not be a physical one necessarily.
C) SCPs obtain , through ingenuity, labor, procurment practices, or violence, certain objects, which are intended to bring ease, comfort and efficiency to the performance of daily activities. these object, which shall be viewed as furniture, are furnished in such a way within the respective rooms, to facilitate the performance of the activities within the rooms.
D) SCPs have choices and tastes. althought their sense of aesthetics may differ greatly from ours, they are motivated in their choices of furniture to create an appealing and pleasing environment.
having stated these assumptions, it is important to be weary, when speculating on the choices made by individuals; though some SCPs may choose one style of furnishing, others may frown on such choices. we must not allow a bias to skew our work.
and so we must set our minds to tentatively speculate about furniture that is chosen by the SCPs for the room designated as dining room. an allocation of a specific location, based principly on functionality denotes some need to socialize. either permanantly , perhaps in a family setting, or only in occassional events. SCPs therefore would not only tolerate the company of others, but also need it to prosper.
As dining is to be the primary function within the dining room, furniture would be chosen, to be functunal for serving of food and the communal seating involved in such social gatherings, be they frequent or not. considering the highly advanced, possibly superior minds of the SCPs, it is more than likely that they shall adopt aesthetic preferences as to these items of furniture. certain styles would be favored while others be rejected. it is unknown , whether SCPs shall favor , in their choosing functionality over aesthetics. indeed, many humans fail to conform to either a common esthetic standard, choosing comfortable furniture that is deemed ugly by their peers, or choosing fashionable, coveted items, which are uncomfortable, not functional and perhaps even unsafe.
it is more than likely that SCPs being social individials, tend to display a similar varaiety in their choices.
let us not assume that they shall choose crude furniture, such as tree stumps or large rocks, simply because they are plants. on the other hand, it could be that the trappings od sophisticated , urbane society, such as metal, glass, and leather upholstery would be regardrded as unfashionable, or even pretentious. in such a case, the more cultured of the SCPs would surely choose those minimalist, down to earth fashions, such as roughly hewn tree stumps, or rock benches.
lastly, being plants , it could be that the material which they choose for their seating, shall be soft and plyable, perhaps like a sponge, or straw, which shall allow them the stretch their roots in. conversely, as some carnivorous plants are epyphytes, they would feel insecure in such a soft perch, demanding a hard unpolished , verticle surface to cling to while eating. perhaps to accommodate for these faction of the SCP community, chars could be made such, as to have a relatively soft cushion, onwhich to sit, while a hard backrest, which would then appeal to the air- rooted members. it could be , that in order to maintain correct, nurturing relations, between the different factions, a compromise would be reached, where, despite minor discomfort for some, all shall benefit from a considerate and harmonious society.
would that we could learn such wisdom in our lives.
