From Reflections to Realities
What if we had never seen our reflections in mirrors since birth?
Would we be self-assured in our self-worth?
Would we still fall victims to the ills of peer pressure?
Would we be confident or wary of comparisons and its associated torture?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion
Hence why beauty is in the eye of the beholder
But could we be brave? Could we be bolder?
To rise above the negative rhetoric and keep our composure
Like real soldiers – heads held high despite the weight of the world on our shoulders
You see it’s really a matter of Depth perception
That causes our self-deception
If you stand too far off we skew our own vision
And then accept what others have adjudge to be our imperfections
But if we stand too close to the picture frame
It’s more or less the same, just that we’re the ones finding the blame
We interpret our own differences as “flaws” and deem it as shame
Instead of viewing it as our own special uniqueness worthy of appreciation and acclaim
But when we adjust our stance to the right distance
And fix our focus; there is absolutely no stopping us
As we realize the Master piece that’s always been before our eyes for all our lives
And I can’t help but get the impression that from hereon
We will turn our reflections into realities
And not subjugate ourselves to the demeaning descriptions from society
