Two Lovers
A time once existed when these two were inseparable and passionate, yet their difficulties were overpowered by the complexities of a soufflé. Perfection seemed too hard to reach. No one could question these two lovers; their glow emanated in every restaurant they visited. She was his, and he was hers.
"Meant to be" were the words that could only briefly explain the powerful love they shared. The day shone because their passion was the flame that warmed the earth, and the starry night was their nest to cool the heat that their love emanated.
The talk of the town, both good and bad, they remained at the center of every conversation, kissing the lips of every mouth that dared to speak of these two gracious beings.
Soon, it all began to change. She was too hot for him, and he was too cold for her. Their differences highlighted every conversation; she loved the day, he craved the night. Why had the love they once shared vanished? A question that rang on every doorstep of the people that idolized them.
Their fights grew louder; his stress wore on his face like a second skin that never sheds. Her tears flooded the town and beat at the earth's fragile core. He became so cold that the earth froze, and ice trickled from the sky. Two lovers, now too toxic for each other.
The town, tired and aggrieved, needed a solution. The nights were becoming too cold; their heaters were freezing. The floods were destroying homes and causing massive landslides, the oceans were storming and battling to destroy the coasts of the towns. The world lacked balance, and the cause was the two lovers, now two strangers.
An agreement needed to be reached. They couldn't be asked to leave because they were needed, but they could not be reunited without destruction. For days the people pondered, in meetings upon meetings, arguments thrown at each other to conclude the best option. Nothing seemed good enough; every human thought was now fruitless.
Then one day, the oldest man asked the most important question. "From where did these two emerge?" No one knew the answer; the meeting adjourned amidst the dumbfounded atmosphere of the gathering. This was a serious problem for which a solution could not be found.
Finally, the two lovers agreed to meet one last time, but only to discuss the impending doom they had brought on the town. As they talked, seconds became minutes, minutes transformed into hours, and then days became months. Everyone was afraid; the fear of the unknown annoyed by the limitations of the human brain to predict the end of these conversations. Every day was torture, starting with hope and ending with disappointments. No one knew if they would ever agree on a plan of action.
One day, the town was awakened to a clear and bright sky. No floods, no rain. Skeptical, they started their days, surprised that no storms enveloped the skies, no clouds to dampen the day. It was bright and beautiful. As night approached, their fears resurfaced. People already in their winter coats awaited a torturous night. Lying on their beds, they felt no cold, no strong winds to bang at their windows, no ice hitting their roofs to form clouds on the ground.
Their nights were now peaceful, and their days graced with natural beauty. The two lovers were no longer seen on the streets wreaking chaos. They had vanished like the problems they brought; the only thing that remained was the eclipse at the last spot they met.
Time has passed, yet people still talk about the mystery couple that shook the earth. They call her his sun, and he was her moon. Two beautiful entities so powerful, they remain long-lost lovers floating in the universe.
