A Child’s Respite
Sniffling into the pillow,
The taps on his window went unheard.
And then a louder knock...
The child looks up and towards his window,
His friends had come.
They run under the sun,
To their favourite spot.
They stop on reaching the gentle stream.
They splash and kick.
They catch and climb.
They shout and howl.
The sniffling child is sniffling no more,
The tear stains have been washed away,
What with all the splashing around.
The glossy eyes of sadness
Turned into shining ones of glee.
He forgets everything else
It's just him and his company,
Under the canopy of trees
In the giggling stream
As the whispering winds keep watch over them.
