Thieves

in the lilac's shade

a thief waits, his breath held tight

eyes on the doorway

scheming the household treasures

blind to the gems around him

spring lilacs, adorned

with emerald drops of dew

and sapphire blossoms—

worthless cover to the crook

a poet might steal them yet
