A Distant Long-Distance Love
It's the hardest when you remember everything
Off your mind.
His birthday.
The distance between you and him.
The number of hours it takes to fly to him.
You know the time on his clock better than he does because you are so used to his timezone.
You know his work and sleep schedules.
You stay awake at night, sacrifice your sleep because you know that that is the time when he's free to Skype.
The sound of his voice over the phone.
His favorite food.
His weekend hangout.
His favorite band.
It used to be your favorite band for the month after he told you.
The colour of his eyes.
The texture of his hair.
Every physical flaw and feature you can find on the limited number of photos you have of him.
The poetry you used to write together.
The smell of the sea where you sat at when you thought of him.
The sound of the waves.
The taste of bliss when he told you he missed you.
The handwriting on the letters he sent.
The words you penned in reply.
The anxiety in waiting for his reply.
And when you received his reply, your heart fluttered like a butterfly high on nectar.
You remember
Every aspect of the future you dreamt together.
Every little complain of the present.
The feeling of being able to share the same bond across half the world, holding your heart just to hear him whisper your name.
It's the hardest when you remember everything.
And he doesn't even remember your name.
What can I say, it's been too long.
