Poetic Justice
Finding joy in the most mundane things,
There's an allure to darkness,
Yet the beauty of light
Shines so bright.
The thin line between love and hate,
Broken in a careless second.
If prone to despair,
Don't buy a gun,
Use your words wisely,
For words are life,
They bring light,
And darkness as well.
Pay heed to words that bear intrigue,
Sheathed in deceit.
Seal your fate,
And don't be late.
The day she died
The day she died
It would be like any other day
At least to the ones who weren't dying that day
See, I didn't mean the physical death
Where your body stopped working
I mean the emotional death
Where you simply stopped caring
Some people were actually dead
They appeared to be the sweetest and happiest people
The most bubbly people that everyone wanted to be with
These were the dead people
They had lost a part of their lives they never thought they would
People who were too broken
Shocked by life multiple times
Made to relive their worst nightmares
These were the dead people
Assured that anything they did
They did out of sheer pain.
All the things
All the things I took for granted,
All the things I couldn't yet comprehend,
All the angels I overlooked
Are now unearthed.
Lessons learned subliminally,
Data gathered subconsciously,
Forces aligned spiritually,
Wreaking havoc within my soul.
Lessons learned subliminally,
Data gathered subconsciously,
Forces aligned spiritually,
Wreaking havoc within my soul.
While seeking a Hail Mary,
I encounter a cascading wall of felonies—
Felonies not against the government,
But felonies in self-depravity.
Punishing oneself for trespasses,
Made out of tyranny...
The haunting of Numero Uno
" You are the most disgusting human being I have ever met," said Chantelle as I squeezed toothpaste from the sachet into my bare hands before licking it with my tongue. I laughed and replied, "It's not my fault I'm choosing to use my natural tools like one of the earth monkeys. I'm weird like that."
On a normal morning, I would have given Chantelle a lesson on how we are just at the top of the earth monkey food chain simply because our creator made the mistake of giving us self-consciousness—basically an experiment that got out of hand. But today, I wasn't in the mood.
You're a fool, Emma," Chantelle said.
I laughed. "Who isn't? What do you want, Chantelle? It's 6 AM."
"I wanted to see if you would go to the outreach with me."
"Oh, I can't, Chantelle. Ade's nightmares are getting worse and he isn't sleeping, so we're going to the teaching hospital to see Dr. Smart today," I said, emphasizing my name was pronounced 'Ehma,' not 'Emma.' "Now leave my room, Chantelle. I have to commune with my maker."
I was strange like that. I prayed to God in a way that made it seem like I was having a conversation with a peer or a lover, unlike Chantelle who talked like she was addressing some distant gods rather than the ultimate creator. I bathed, brushed my teeth, and talked to my maker for about thirty minutes, then I proceeded to Ade's room.
