Before you loved me
I was like
A fisherman
Cursed to
Float adrift.
Together,
I possess the happiness
Of an angel
Cleaving to God,
And how I wish
That I knew you
When young
But clocks
Are precarious
Windows
They mark
Where I’ve been
And frighteningly
Where we’re headed –
Towards dust
Though I believe
We are not body
And will, one day,
Return to God
But as the years
Fall like
Quivering leaves
Let my soul
Be your last meal –
But, until then,
You are
My comfort
Like a favorite
Pair of socks
Easy to take
For granted
But needed to walk
On icy life.
I was once
An infinite mix
Of blues,
And grateful
That you are here,
The moon
Is my library.
