i wish i could see the world

in technicolor again

when the trees

breathed magic

from their

kaleidoscope heights

but now

the trees

are skyscrapers,

unnatural monsters

looming over the gray scale

of my monochrome life.

Closing the book, I thought of Dickens; I thought of two cities parallel in a universe unfolding.

Laughing , I tossed its well worn rectangular shape onto the couch.
