Challenge
Use the words "I was never the same" in a poem
n/ever the same
I'm never the same
as I was before.
Measure time how you will. I change, stretch,
half of one second faster in sixteen hundred meters,
different polish chipped on my nails,
a breath or two more straining my lungs. Yet.
Same old tears stick to my cheeks,
pulling back at the edges of my new smile
like a friend I can't leave behind.
