If You Don’t Like Poetry
If you don't like poetry,
then you probably don't like song lyrics.
If you don't like song lyrics,
then you probably don't like music.
If you don't like music,
then you probably don't like dancing.
If you don't like dancing,
then you probably don't like ballet.
If you don't like ballet,
then you probably don't like opera.
I don't like opera.
So, we've got an enemy that we share.
If you don't like poetry, I don't care.
I.
I dream of love, and yet,
I live each day hiding from it
For I tell myself I don't need it
But that couldn't be further from the truth.
Reaching out rarely does me any good
And the people in dreams are so much easier to read
But they're always gone by morning.
Though, isn't everybody?
II.
I wanted to try
I wanted to believe I could
But come on, I still kid myself
Believing I have some semblance of control
Because I can breathe and I can write
I think everything's fine but nothing's alright
Oh well, the pills are kicking in now
Surely I'll forget my strife
In a simple ten minutes time.
Pointless
I'm not an oracle
I'm not a prophet
I wasn't put here to teach
I wasn't pre-ordained by God
I'm just a human
An animal who knows what it's like to love
To cry a little too much
To hurt, to feel all pains
To dream, to sleep
To live in my head
I don't have all the answers
But I'll keep guessing
Because we can't just wander
We can't just be aimless
