All in a Night’s Work
Georgia summoned the last bit of her strength to turn the knob of her apartment. She limped into the living room, softly kicking the door closed behind her, and falling onto the couch. She lie in the dark, alone with her shallow breathing. If the wounds were believable, she would have gone to a hospital, but no one would believe anything that had just happened. So what happened to you? Well, a monster came in my house to steal my wings to I had to fight him but he won and was dragging me away when I managed to overpower him and drive us both into a tree and escape before the car exploded. Hmm, so, I'm going to go call a psyc ward now.
Georgia sighed and rolled over. Her wings ached from being pulled so hard. To think she thought that monster actually liked her. She should have just stayed in her classroom for the night as she often did nowadays. The microwave taunted her with the time. 3:42. 3:43. 3:44. In about two hours, she would be awaken by her alarm clock and would have to go to Armstrong High School to teach math. She laid her head in her pillow and tried to ignore the looming questions over her. What happened? Are you okay? You don't look so good. Are you sure you're okay, Mrs. Trulivyse?
"I'm fine," she said with a cheery smile.
The student asking her seemed skeptical but backed off.
Georgia turned to the chalkboard and began to write out warm up questions. Solve for x. Solve for y. Simplify. She wrote with ease despite the bruises that peppered her arms. She walked as if her ribs weren't broken. Though she knew that as soon as the last bell rang for the day, she would be out of energy to do anything else but lay at her desk and weep.
