city in rain

i drifted away with the storm clouds

letting my heart fall with the rain

that crashes over a forgotten city

soaking the empty pavements darker

erasing a colorful sketch in sidewalk chalk

misting the glass windows of my bedroom

scattering under cold glowing streetlights as

distant skyscrapers became a faded memory

blurring your vision as you stand on the pavement

watching him leave and rain falling on your face

because you wanted to believe that you weren’t crying

my heart shatters the way rain drips down your skin

falling softly without leaving a trace and all of a sudden

ended in a thousand pieces on the hard concrete ground
