Bewitched on a Winter Day
The youth drifted from each fantasy tale continuously. He would never admit it but he lived through those stories vicariously and hoped that someday he could embark on a journey of his own.
Sinbad sailed throughout the seven seas and so could he (thankfully, in the comfort of his bed). Magi traversed through labyrinths and befriended djinn. Mad scientists perpetuated chaos and sin through feats such as alchemy. All the excitement and tension of the fictional realms was something that he wanted to endlessly soak in.
Unfortunately, he got sick quite often and traveling was something that was risky for him to do.
The closest he got to an adventure of his own were the few days that he volunteered around the park. In his mind, he was a content vagrant helping others along his wayward path. In reality, he was just an unfortunate student with no other plans.
When winter finally rolled around, he started to take on more volunteering shifts. It wasn't a bright idea on his behalf considering the fact that the cold weather and physical labor would probably make him ill again. Nevertheless, he would endure any physical ailment to escape the suffocating cabin fever he felt.
He was tasked to distribute free lunches in the park that day. An onslaught of people came but were surprisingly sweet and a tame. Usually the crowds he dealt with were jaded and stiff.
One person in particular caught his eye. The billowing breezes meandered through her hair and painted an illusion of golden wind in the sky.
She meekly approached him and asked for a lunchbox. Before he complied, the youth couldn't help but ask the question that kept nagging him in the back of his mind.
"What's your name?"
"It's Chevalier D'Eon." She responded in a melodious tone. The girl gaze into his starstruck eyes with a steely glint in her azure eyes.
"You know, you're the only other boy my age that I've seen around in this town." The blonde mused. "Asides from Astolfo."
The boy recoiled in his confusion. Shortly afterwards, another youth with long silken tresses came bounding up towards the blonde.
"It took you long enough Astolfo." The blonde muttered as they shrugged the pinkette's arm off their shoulders. "Do you know how long I waited in this park?"
"I'm sorry Eon! I went caroling and it took far loner than I thought." Astolfo whined. "Do you want to hear a song a sang?"
"No." was the blonde's response but the pink haired youth began to belt out an offkey tune anyways.
"Padoru Padoru!" they exclaimed in an ear grating squeak.
The volunteer decided he had worked enough. He packed up the foldable table and stowed it back in his truck. Then he gathered all of the unclaimed lunchboxes and bagged them up to bring to the local soup kitchen.
