The Family of Four
A family of four walked along the sidewalk. They walked from street to street, neighborhood to neighborhood. Their smiles gleamed as bright as the morning sun.
On occasion there were those who saw them and stared. This family seemed out of the ordinary, but then again what isn't out of the ordinary in this strange town they all lived in. One was famous from a local, cable talk show and the other was a charming stranger. But their pride and joys have always been the pair of children they cared for.
Most didn't mind nor bother, like the DeMarcos from down the street. Though there were some that looked at them with disgusted scowls. The fact they were a family like this seem abominable. Folks like Mrs. Wordsworth thought what they are and what they were committing was the ultimate sin. Yet this family couldn't mind nor care what others thought or said. They were happy, which mattered to them the most.
The family finally reached their destination after a long walk. The address was correct. 999 Milton Avenue. The big house painted red like a cherry. They all approached the front door together and knocked at the same time.
Mrs. Carmen Gravely opened the door and met the family members. First was her friend and coworker Marcus Marlow. His skin was very dark and his head was cleanly shaved. The only hair present on his head was the thin mustache and goatee that encircled around his smiling lips. Marlow was also dressed out in his best, stylish violet suit that always wore to their show.
Next to him was his daughter Kayleigh Marlow-Goto, one of Rosemary's best friends from school. She, like her father, also had dark skin but she also had a bushel of dark brown hair on top of her head. She wore a light purple long-sleeve shirt with glittered stars, light blue jeans, and beaded necklace that hung around her neck.
Next to the duo was Marcus' faithful husband, Walter Goto. His family hailed all the way from Japan and he worked as a hair stylist for a local beauty parlor in town. His hair was decorated with a bands of blue that combed over his head. And in his arms was their newly adopted son Riku Marlow-Goto. Just over a year old with his little mouth clamped around his even littler thumb.
Carmen happily greeted them all one by one, welcoming them into her home. The Marlow-Goto family all enter as Mrs. Gravely guided them to the backyard. There the rest of the Gravely family waited for them. Her daughters, Rosemary and Regan, were out playing with their pet snake, Slinky. They were even greeted by Carmen's devilish second husband, Lu, who sat in a rocking chair and raised a cold beer towards them.
They were familiar with his line of business, but it didn't bother them. As long as they were happy together was what really mattered. Now that the guests arrived for family picnic, The Gravely family and the Marlow-Goto family sat around the picnic table, laughing and chatting together on a beautiful summer's day.
