Saying “Goodbye”
Final Goodbye
A somber farewell,
Passed between stilted breaths
And a series of silent words
As the end came near,
I gripped your limp hand,
Tightly, as if that would be enough
To tether you to this world
I felt your hand trembling
Even as you claimed
You weren't afraid
You were so strong,
But I couldn't hold the despair back
In your final moments,
I wanted to be a pillar of strength,
Infallible, immoveable,
One you could rest upon
As your life faded away
Instead, hot tears poured from my eyes
Streaking down in rivulets
You gave me whispered words of reassurance,
Your own eyes sparkling with unshed sorrow,
And within mere moments,
You breathed your last
Empty, hollow, numb,
I murmured a final farewell
Then slowly walked away
