Freedom in Christ
Truly, freedom in general is a paradox.
Think about it. How many times do you hear that freedom comes at a price?
On Memorial Day we celebrate those who have paid the highest price, by giving their own lives.
Their sacrifice is said to be one for our freedom, their own included. We are called to remember their sacrifice so we might not forget that we all need to play a role if we are to preserve our freedom. Freedom requires service.
Think again of those who are in prison. Who do they serve? Themselves, and they have no freedom, which is the reason for their prison.
For anyone who knows the freedom of Christ, this paradox is personified. Never is one more free than at the foot of the cross, yet no other freedom is more costly. It requires a total life service.
So I guess the question is of what we serve, and what that service yields.
If political freedom is worth a life, and self-service worth personal freedom, what is eternal freedom worth?
We are all slaves. Only some of us have a greater master than others...
