age 5
when i was your age,
i wore sketchers and kissed boys on the playground
because i didn’t know the meaning of that yet
i kicked woodchips at my friends
and i dreamed of being a
goddamn prima ballerina.
when i was your age,
all my aspirations were
pink-tinted and wonderful
i thought that anything was possible.
that maybe one day i’d be something wonderful too.
when i was your age,
i wished dandelions into the wind cause
even though they made me sneeze,
they gave me something more than allergies
or weeds i’d have to pull out weeks later.
when i was your age,
i didn’t know that dreams are priceless and
i didn’t know how to salvage mine,
because it was bigger than the sun
and i wasn't taught how to hold it properly.
at that age,
i knew freedom from myself and everything else
and
even if i didn’t know how valuable it was at the time,
i knew that i had something special
in the tiny palms
of my 5 year old self.
Act your age
When I was your age
I loved to dance
I would twirl around the room
And get lost in a trance
When I was your age
My smile was so bright
I remember feeling happy
To be alive
When I was your age
I was filled with a fire
That no one could burn down
When I was your age
I would laugh at anything
For I was running free
In love with a boy that didn’t know me
When I was your age
I was happy
So tell me what I’m supposed to do now
When all I feel is numb
To a world that doesn’t care if I don’t make it out
