Walls
The great thing about being
afraid of the dark
is that in your worst moments,
you know you're never alone.
I talk to shadows,
and they laugh at my stories.
People think I'm crazy
because the only friends I have
come only after sundown,
when I turn off the lights
and the world turns black.
They tell me I'm too far away
to see through the dark;
they wish they knew what I look like.
I tell them thanks for coming anyway,
every night, without fail.
At least they're reliable.
People think I'm crazy
because my only friends live on my walls.
The morning sun exists only to drive them away,
but I closed my curtains long ago.
Infinity
Soon we will be scattered.
The universe is infinite,
with billions and billions of stars
that shine bright enough to light up your eyes
from miles away.
I can only see as far as the horizon,
a blurry line in the distance
that separates the ground from the sky.
Soon we'll be far away,
too far to see each other's faces,
too far to hear each other laugh,
or cry, or sing the songs
that have become our soundtrack.
We'll be scattered like the stars,
and the thing about stars
is you can see them from afar
but they're always
out of reach.
I've never seen the stars up close,
but for the years I've known you,
I have known a whole galaxy
