Meant to Fly
Tracing the dotted lines
between our love and its existence,
I cradle your lost smiles tenderly,
tucking them forever into my heart
Numbness seeps into my soul,
vacant eyes reflecting my sorrow -
my empty world paved over and sky
seeded with visions of better times
I trace your name on a tree trunk
now stretched way out of my reach.
Yellowed photos thrown in a box -
amethyst shadowed flashbacks
I stand screaming at the sky
flashing our love and its ending
of crippled wings and stolen soul
when I was always meant to fly.
