Cameroceras
Cameroceras (Cam-eh-row-cer-as)
Name Means: "Chambered Horn"
Cameroceras was a prehistoric cephalopod and an ancestor to modern day octopuses and squids. Most notable about them is their cone shaped shells which their fossilized remains can be found anywhere. This creature once swam the seas approximately 470 million years ago during the Ordovician Period. They were also the largest of the Ordovician cephalopods, having grown to about 8 meters in length. Although this measurement is only an approximation since the only remains of these species that are recovered are their shells due to the rest of a cephalopod's body being made mostly of muscle.
