Society
Seriousness can be categorized in many different ways and can be looked at with different perspectives. Being serious can be associated with being complacent and stern about a certain moral standard. Ever since we were kids, society has taught us to shut up because vocalizing our complaints is something radical and frowned upon. If we show the smallest bit of an attempt of revolutionary change, the spotlight is suddenly on us and we are antagonized for our beliefs. Therefore, we remain serious, at least what society believes is serious because nobody wants to be the person that is criticized, even if they are the ones pushing the boundaries of social norm. The question "Why so serious?" cannot be answered on an individual basis, but instead must be presented to the public as to why we are limiting ourselves from taking risks and exploring change.
