Work Alone
A pack of wolves sounds oddly
like clucking hens
behind a hip-height counter,
and a few computer screens
When not whining about salary
I watch them complain about training
resentment and irritation on free education,
or mat leave, sick leave, vacation pay and overtime. That's
what our taxes can afford
It doesn't go towards a healthy environment
for certified clients. No, they spend the days
sweating over blank checks with blank spaces,
staring down blank answers
from blank faces.
How many industries are the same?
I've checked a dozen, the results are loaded and locked
If you are unhappy at your office, don't clock in
Don't waste your time and our energy
Don't expect more from my employer because you need it
Earn it.
I hold myself up by my principles: Never bitch about the job. fix it.
Never submit to the clause, if it ain't broke...Don't want progress?
keep plucking away, but stop asking me to pay
for your unhappiness
My time is valuable to me, as yours should be to you. I'm grateful
for those who see my potential and dig in. Yes, make money with me, yes
ask me to solve problems. Yes, teach me how I too can find success,
as of now...I work alone, but I am the real social animal
Watch me claw free facts on my first day, let me sniff out bullshit and defend
the best parts about work: comradery, productivity, and capital
I don't care if I never chat to my fellows when it means we've finished our work
I don't want to talk to anyone who won't choose themselves over a job
Who feel like work keeps happening to them. You have a lifetime
to design a career, I fear for the ones who hate this job, so
Leave it to me
but
Leave me to it
