CHAPTER 8

~Ellie's P.O.V~
I woke up feeling a sharp pain in my head and I instinctively shut my eyes while desperately summoning my willpower to endure the pain. When the pain finally becomes dull, I slowly open my eyes and loosen my muscles making sure to make as minimal movement as possible. I took in the white ceiling, the sound of the fan gyrating and the slow swaying of the baby blue coloured curtain around me.
I heard the sound of a door being open and closed, then moments later Sam's head pop out from the curtain.
"Hey, you're awake. How are you feeling?" She asked and pulled out a chair under the bed I was on and sat beside me.
"I'll survive," I replied her. "Am I in the hospital?"
"Huh? Oh right, you're new here so you wouldn't know. This is actually the school's infirmary." She said. "How's the head?" Sam asked and gave my bandage head bump a look.
"Ugh. It's still throbbing. Please tell me I didn't embarrass myself when I blacked out." I pleaded with her. Judging from the big lump on my head, I'm pretty sure I made an ass of myself when I fainted.
She gave me a worried look, then her lips slowly twisted to a grin.
"What?" I asked nervously.
"Don't worry. You didn't embarrass yourself, but you did cause a scene." She gave me that I-know-something-you-don't-know looks and took her time before telling me more information.
"Well, I can imagine that. I did black out suddenly in the middle of the cafeteria, in front of most of the student body and while I was sitting beside Tim." I said to her and mentally face palm myself. How the hell am I ever going to show my face at school ever again? I'm a laughing joke, not even a week has passed and I've already been injured twice. This is so not my week. I released a sigh.
"Not because of that." Sam dismissed my reasoning. "Because of Greg. You should have seen the faces of those sluts when Greg holds you." At this point, while Sam was laughing like a maniac she lost me at 'because of Greg'. She was still talking about something when I interrupted her.
"Hold it! Backup! What do you mean because of Greg?" I asked.
"Dude, that's what I'm trying to tell you. Weren't you listening?" She replied sounding exasperated.
"Well explain it to me again," I said impatiently.
"Fine. But this time, concentrate," she warned me and pulled her chair closer to the bed. "When you suddenly fainted, we were all shocked. We were too shocked, we couldn't move fast enough to catch you. But not for Greg."
I listen attentively to Sam especially when she said Greg's name.
"Before you even started falling Greg was already on the move, and within seconds, he was already beside you."
"What? He can't possibly be that fast?! He was like, across the floor from me and judging from the crowded area he would surely have troubled getting near me in time." I interrupted.
"No interruption please, I'm telling a story here."
"Err...sorry."
"Anyway, within seconds, he was beside you. He did manage to catch you before you completely fell to the floor but unfortunately you bump your head to one of the chairs. You were bleeding quite a bit from it too."
"Damn! Seriously? Was I bleeding on him? Was he pissed?" I interrupted her again.
"No. Will you just let me finish?"
"Sorry. I couldn't help myself." I apologise.
"As I was saying, Tim offered to carry you here but Greg wouldn't let anyone touch you. He kept on scowling and giving people the evil eye." Sam looked thoughtful for a while then fixed her gaze on me.
"W-what is it?" I asked nervously.
"Are you two dating by any chance?" Sam casually placed a hand on her chin while still staring at me.
"What? No way! I barely even know the guy," I replied, perplexed with her conclusion of the situation.
"Hmm...Then it's very strange that he would be so protective of you if both of you are practically strangers."
Why was he acting like that? We've meet a few times but even at that time we never exchange any friendly conversation. Even so, I can't stop this feeling. Why am I feeling so happy about this?
"No...could it be?" Sam said suddenly. I was too occupied with my feelings I almost forgot that Sam was there.
"What is it, Sam?" She looked serious all of a sudden as if she just figured out the answer to a puzzle but she didn't give any sign indicating that she heard me. "Sam?!"
"Yeah?" She finally answered me.
"What are you thinking?" I asked since I was a bit curious myself.
"Oh, nothing important." She smiled at me and acts normally. I looked at her unconvinced then suddenly my head starts hurting. I closed my eyes tightly and wait for the pain to stop.
I can't jump to conclusion just yet
"What did you say?" I slowly open my eyes and looked at Sam.
"Hm? I didn't say anything" she replied puzzled.
"But I'm sure you said..."
"Ellie!" Someone suddenly barges into the infirmary shouting my name.
"Dad!? What are you doing here?" I asked surprised. Dad was looking rather dishevelled and out of breath. He probably ran here worried about me.
"You're school called me so I came as fast as I could. Are you alright?" Dad makes his way towards me and started to fuss over my injury. Over the commotion, Sam silently dismissed herself to give us more space. Before she leaves the room I smiled at her knowing her intention and she smiled in returned.
"The moving must have been hard on you. I'm sorry I didn't realise that it cause you so much stress." Dad said solemnly. He sighed and looked really depressed.
"It's nothing dad, you know it's hard for me to adapt to new surroundings. But I'll eventually get used to it. I even have lots of friends now." I tried to reassure him. "So don't worry. Okay." He didn't look less worried than he was before but he nodded in response to what I said. "Come on let's go home, I believe I have an excuse to skip class today."
~Sam's P.O.V~
Now that I think about it, he's action is certainly out of the ordinary. He never shows interest in anyone before yet today he was so protective of her. Plus his hatred towards her class can't be overlooked just like that. There's only one possible explanation but I have to make sure.
~Greg's P.O.V~
Hell, that was unexpected, my body just move on its own the moment she started to lose consciousness. Everything around stop moving and it was only her but I couldn't get to her fast enough. My heart stops when I heard her head connect with something hard. The image of her bleeding so much burned at the back of my mind reminding me that she is human a fragile creature. I could feel everyone's burning gaze on me, watching my every move, but at that moment I couldn't care less if my secret got out. All I cared about was getting my mate medical attention. The bastard Tim got the nerve to take my mate away from me, I growl at him giving him a warning to stay away from what's mine.
I made my way to the infirmary as fast as I could without moving her too much. As I entered the infirmary, Dr Reese was there. An attractive 5ft 6in middle age woman with curly brown hair and hazel coloured eyes to matched. Who also happens to be the pack's doctor.
"Alpha, it's rare to see you here." Dr Reese stood up once she realises it was me who entered the room. "What's---" Once she saw Ellie, she quickly grasps the situation and didn't waste time asking. "Set her on the bed."
I gently lay Ellie down as instructed and gave the Doctor room to inspect her. "What happen to her?" She asked as she approached the bed.
"She fainted and hit her head," I replied. She checked her breathing, her pupillary response, her injury and some other check-ups needed for her to conclude her diagnosis.
"Although the cut wasn't deep she is suffering from a minor concussion and it'll be awhile before she comes to." She explained to me. "She'll be fine, Alpha." I nodded in response to her assurance. After Ellie's wound was clean and bandaged, I stayed a little while longer and watch her sleep. I love listening to the beating of her heart thumping in perfect sync with mine, the electrifying feeling when our skin touch, the smell of her flowery scent. It makes me desire her even more than I already am.
I tucked in some loose strands of hair that are starting to cover her face and unintentionally started caressing her cheek. My thumb touching her lips gently and without thinking I lean in closer for a kiss. Within inches of making contact with her lips, the sound of footsteps heading this direction stopped me. I immediately leave the room and just barely escape from being seen by Sam.
I skipped the rest of the class and drove back home. The whole way home I kept thinking back on the incident at the cafeteria. There's a possibility my secret is already out, and that the elders are already waiting for me demanding an explanation. I released a sigh. I didn't feel like going home just yet so I took a detour to town. I drove around the area for a while and I eventually ended up at the beach. The sun has already begun setting, painting the sky with rays of red and yellows.
The sea breeze along with the sound of the waves crashing onto the shore was relaxing. As I walk slowly at the shore I released another sigh. I didn't know where to begin searching for a way to sever the bond. Every time I saw her, my heart starts wavering and I didn't feel like separating from her. Is there some deeper meaning of having a human as a mate? Or is it just some cruel fate playing a joke on me. As my mind wonder, I caught a whiff of a familiar scent.
It has a similar flowery scent just like Ellie. I took another whiff and sure enough, it does smell like Ellie. There was no other scent present around her. Is she alone? Why is she here? She should've been resting at home. As I imagine lots of scenarios to explain her presence, some being unpleasant, I ran as fast as I could to her location. Her scent grew stronger as I ran until finally, I saw her body looking lifeless on the sand. I felt a surge of fear pushed me to run faster to reach her side. My heart rate was spiking and my brain couldn't process anything as I was too focusing on her body lying there unmoving.
"Ellie," I called to her as I kneel beside her and grab her body towards mine. Her eyes open and those beautiful brown eyes gaze back at me.

So, how is it?
