If Stairs Could Talk
If stairs could talk,
They'd moan and groan,
And gossip with
The telephone
The telephone
Would ring the walls
Who, in turn,
Would tell the halls
Pretty soon,
The whole darn house
From creaking board
To tiny mouse
Would know the truth
And shout it, too;
If only humans
Had a clue
--
late for a challenge (what if stairs could talk?)
We Try
It’s not fair; we get no chance
It’s like the world is in a trance:
“Kill them, break them, make them whole
they have taken what we stole.”
“It’s not right,” we kick, we scream
It’s like the world is in a dream:
“They are wrong, for they’re not us
It is they we should not trust.”
They try to change us, they mean well
It’s like the world is under a spell:
“Mold them, shape them, make them same
They are beasts that we must tame.”
They think us dumb, we are naive
But it’s the world we can’t believe:
“We love all, just not you
Everything we think is true.”
Stars
They exist for a moment
The stars in the sky
They sparkle, forgotten
Then they die
We exist for a moment
The playthings of time
We fight against it
And pay for the crime
It exists for a moment
The stage where we stand
It collapses around us
Our home built of sand
I exist for a moment
An illusion at best
A dreamer that’s different
So I'm laid to rest
